Mixing it up!

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Today, I would like to talk about my latest music craze, mashup. Described by wikipedia as being “a song or composition created by blending two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another“, mashup is like a gumbo of music, sometimes mixing two popular tracks, like Shut Up And Let Me Go by The Ting Tings and American Boy by Estelle (below), sometimes it is two totally different things, like Jay-Z and The Beatles (below below), sometimes it is a band you’ve never heard of and a song from a movie, like Glass Candy and Survivor (below below below), but still other times it is a clever collaboration of multiple artists physically working together, in the band/project N.A.S.A.(below below below).

So happy listening. The bands featured in this post: The Hood Internet (TheHoodInternet.com), DJ Danger Mouse (Click the link below the player to go to the album’s imeem page), and N.A.S.A.(squeakecleanblog.com/nasa-music). Check this music out, it’s really an awesome way to become less musically ignorant.
